Helen conducting at The Recorder Summer School, August 2014

One of Helen's musical passions is conducting recorder ensembles and orchestras.

Helen has a particular interest in conducting recorder orchestras. She is Musical Director of the Thames Valley Recorder Orchestra, which she formed in 2007. Since then the orchestra has given concerts in many venues around the Thames Valley area. The orchestra are currently preparing for their 2017 concert in Bracknell where they will be celebrating their tenth birthday with a programme titled "A Celtic Fantasy".  Helen was also Assistant Musical Director of the Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia for twenty one years.

Helen has been a Musical Advisor and visiting conductor to the Society of Recorder Players since 2000.  In the last fifteen years Helen has worked with 43 of the Society’s 50 branches!  She also regularly conducts at the SRP's annual National Festival and has directed several of the massed performances at these festivals, sometimes with ensembles of up to 250 players.
